HEY BABY BOOMER GOLFERS: I’VE BEEN IN YOUR SHOES

HEY BABY BOOMER GOLFERS: I'VE BEEN IN YOUR SHOES

Hey golfers, as a golf teacher and coach for many years, I hear many say:“Where did my golf game go, where did my swing go”

So I’m Jim DeLaby,

-a PGA Quarter Century Member

-a certified The First Tee Coach

-and a certified Life Coach

And I want to be your Coach to help you find your golf game & golf swing.

Again, as I mentioned at the start of this, many times golfers will come to me and ask “Where did my game go?”, “I was playing so good, but then I had a bad shot, a bad hole, a bad nine, and or a bad 18 hole round.  And I cannot find my game any more.”

Yes, when our golf games seem to have vanished , from hitting these bad shots to scoring higher than we are used to, we start to think that we have lost our games and our swings forever.

We become very hopeless and frustrated, and will try anything to get our games and our swings back… ie,

-new thoughts,

-old thoughts,

-many thoughts,.

-new teachers

-new training aids

-new books

-new clubs

-new supplements

-new philosophies

-more range balls

And so on…

Then our bodies get tight,

-thus our hands tighten our grip of the club.

-And the result is bad shots, high scores.

The good news is you can’t lose a skill.

Your golf game, your golf swing in particular, has not vanished.  You are, however, confused by many distractions or stressors.

My job, as your coach, will be to help you to understand how these distractions or stressors create unintentional thoughts,

-that trigger unwelcomed emotions,

-that make us swing with unwanted tension,

-causing bad shots, bad holes, and or bad 9 hole and 18 hole scores.

I’ve researched how the brain is connected to your swing action and results.  You might have thought you lost your swing but I can help you rediscover it.  Then we can learn to enhance it, to make your experience much more enjoyable.

Hey look, I’ve been in your shoes, I’ve been where you are currently. Despite many issues, I was able to succeed on a high level (NCAA Division 3 All American, and part of a National Championship Team, in my early years), as I started to figure out different issues that were causing me to think I had lost my game. But I would take that model of learning, and eventually apply it to many new issues that plagued my game, especially after that level of success, as I moved into the work world, growing a family of 4, and other pressures, as the years moved on:

-As a right handed amateur golfer

-To a a golf professional

-To a Beginner

-To an intermediate

-To now an advanced player

-From having many different issues that had me thinking just like you, where did my game and swing go,

-From major injuries that affected my neck and back, and other parts of my body

-Sicknesses

-Vertigo

-Golf elbow

-Knee issues

-Spasms

-Migraines

-Neck and back

-Major surgery

-Major allergies

-Grieving

-Working 60 hour plus weeks

-Fully confused

-Mood swings

-To having to move around the state many times due to several job changes

And I can tell you when going thru these things, they brought me to hopelessness with my golf game, as I thought each and every time where did my game and swing go.  Back to to the range to try and find it.

But in the year 2001, when some family events caused me and an avid golfing family member not to be able to practice anymore, mostly due to major time constraints, it happened. As a player, teacher, and coach I needed a miracle at this time, and literally prayed for help:  “Can a golfer not practice and still maintain his or her skill”.

After that it all changed, as I was led on a quest, through much research and experimentation, to  figure out if a golfer can actually lose his or her game, with no practice.  And because of these findings, coupled with my utilizing these findings, while developing my left handed game much faster than my right handed game, I now know without a doubt you cannot lose a skill, and  it has nothing do with how many range balls you hit, or lessons you take, or books you read etc… It does however have to do with how we think.

And I would love to spend time with you, to  teach and coach you, with my unique life coaching and teaching philosophies that have been developed from my research and findings on how to think this way, because then you will realize without a doubt, you cannot lose your golf game.

And as we progress in our time together, and as you start to get it, you will say “wow, I found my game & swing, it never was lost, and now I know how to get it back with confidence not hopelessness, because I cannot lose my golf game nor my golf swing”

Baby boomer golfers I look forward to this journey, to help you find your golf game and your golf swing.

This is another answer to help you keep your confidence in your golf swingfrom your PGA Teaching Professional, First Tee, and Life Coach, Jim DeLaby

“I am proud to call Jim Delaby one of the most amazing and unconventional teaching pros of our time. As a former 3 handicap in the 1990s, playing in multiple SCGA amateur tournaments in Palm Desert, I found myself ten years later putting too much pressure on my performance or my final scorecard. Guess what? I developed the “yips” in my putting and started “blading”  many chips around the green in every round of golf I played. I could not stop the problems. Did not know what to do?

From 2004-2006, I became the Director of Marketing at the Cypress Ridge Golf Club in Arroyo Grande, California where Jim was the Director of the CRGC Golf Academy.  After countless hours of Jim trying to fix my swing, I agreed to have Jim completely renovate my entire golf game. I was fighting his teaching because it involves telling yourself that your ego is in the way. It was during this process that I was able to let go and just surrender to his teaching.  This was not easy for me because I spend 1996-2004 working in professional golf management and watching many rising stars achieve their goals without a full-time teaching coach. In fact, when I became one of the top golf marketing agents for IMG in Asia, I was working with Arjun Atwal (PGA TOUR winner), Thongchai Jaidee (multiple winner on the European Tour) and KJ Choi (who qualified for the PGA TOUR in 1998 and went on to win seven (7) times).  I was also managing Asian Tour events, celebrity Pro-Ams and attending WGC events around the globe. I worked with David Leadbetter exclusively from 1997-2003 for all my players. You think I was high on myself? You got that right!

What Jim saw in me and what he did for me was truly awesome!  We spent hours hitting balls with my eyes closed so my mind knew where the ball was all times.  We moved my hands forward on my chipping to get through the swing every time. We even started to eat better when playing a round of golf so we never were going hungry on the course. His teaching is centered around “Sip & Nibble” after every shot. I also learned how to hold the golf club properly through a natural phenomenon called the “Grip-Print”. Imagine trusting what God gave you to find your proper grip! Jim pushed me when I did not want to watch videos of Tiger and Els’ swing, I could trust a single plane takeaway that eliminated my “shanks”. I also learned to bring up “imaginary” boundaries, so my swing finished inside the boundaries, and my mind compensated for a bad takeaway.  Call it crazy, unconventional or even obscure, but sometimes we simply can’t get out of our own way and think we can just take off work and tee-it up with no problems. We carry way too much baggage onto the golf course. Right?

Believe me, working with Jim Delaby will change how you approach the game of golf, drop your scores and build a spiritual connection to the golf course & every shot you take.  Jim was so inspirational to me, my family (Samantha-Cal Poly Golf Team 2001-2003) and my renewed love for golf. Thank you Jim!

I endorse Jim Delaby!
